Services and payments

What is free, what each paid service gives and costs, paying and renewing, and what happens when a paid period ends.

What's free

mesh-net has no plans. Every account gets the same free part, and everything beyond it is a separate paid service with its own end date. Free for every account:

  • The public network — up to 5 devices; more with the +5 devices pack.
  • 3 names in mesh-net's zones, with DNS records and dynamic DNS; more with +5 domains packs or a bonus from the administrator. Your own domain counts as one name.
  • Rooms — up to 3 per account, the same for everyone.

The free part has no end date. An account without paid services only has to sign in now and then — see Inactive free accounts.

A private network

A private network — your own mesh network with its own control server, routes, access rules and gateways, and no device limit — is paid for each network: 99 ₽ a month or 990 ₽ a year. Every network has its own end date, shown as Paid until.

  • Pay first, then create or import. Creating a network and importing one — from your own headscale or from an Export archive — both need a paid network that isn't created yet; an import is never free. Without one, the Create network and Import panels on My networks show the price and the buttons Pay 99 ₽ for a month and Pay 990 ₽ for a year next to the address of the new network. After the payment you're back in that panel (see Paying).
  • One at a time. While you have a paid network that isn't created yet, another one can't be paid for: create or import this one first.
  • Deleting a network keeps its paid period. Until its end date you can create or import another network in it; My networks then says A private network is paid until … and isn't created yet: create or import it. A paid period with no network in it ends with its date.
  • The owner pays. The paid period belongs to the network's owner. The people of a shared network pay nothing and don't renew it; when the network is transferred, its paid period goes with it.
  • Administrators of mesh-net don't pay for their networks: such a network shows no payment needed.

Other paid services

Each is bought on the page it belongs to and has its own end date.

Your services on Overview

Everything you pay for is listed on Overview under Services, a row per service: Service, Details and Paid until.

  • Private network — a row for each paid network: its address, or paid, not created yet for a paid network you haven't created yet (or whose network you deleted). Renew in the row opens the renewal buttons below the list.
  • Reverse-proxy, Extra domains and Extra devices — how many slots, names or devices, and the end date (expired once it has passed). The row leads to the page where they are renewed.

What the Paid until column says about a network:

ShownWhat it means
paid until …The paid period runs. Within 7 days of its end the date is highlighted.
ended …: works until …The paid period has ended, and the network still works: the grace period.
stopped: deleted on …The network is stopped; renewed before that date, it works again.
renewed: startingRenewed after the stop; the network starts within about a minute.
no end datePaid with no end date: there's nothing to renew.

Under the list, a card gives the price of a private network, with Create network. With nothing paid yet, the list says so. The Account page shows how many paid services you have and links to this list.

Paying

  1. Press the payment button on the page where the service lives: Pay 99 ₽ for a month or Pay 990 ₽ for a year for a new private network; Buy for a month or Buy for a year for the other services; Renew for a month or Renew for a year to renew.
  2. Pay on the payment page.
  3. You come back to the page you paid from. Usually the purchase is already active; if the payment provider hasn't confirmed the payment yet, it turns on as soon as the confirmation arrives — refresh the page in a minute instead of paying again. An email confirms the payment; the receipt comes from the payment provider separately.

After paying for a new network you're back on My networks with the Create network (or Import) panel open and the name you picked already selected. Press Create network — or, for an import, choose the file and press Import: the file isn't uploaded before the payment, so you choose it only now.

  • A month is 30 days, a year is 365.
  • Prices are in rubles.
  • Payments are not available right now. or Purchase paused instead of the buttons means buying is temporarily switched off; try later.

Renewal

Renewal is manual: nothing is charged automatically. Renewing early loses nothing — the new period is added to the current one. Reminder emails come 7 days and 1 day before the end of each paid network, of the reverse-proxy slots and of a pack, each once per period and in the language of your account.

Renew a private network

Each network is renewed on its own, in any of these places:

  • Overview, under Services: Renew in the network's row, then Renew for a month or Renew for a year;
  • the network's page, the Settings tab: Renew in the Paid until row opens Renew the network with the same buttons;
  • the strip under the network's header, with the same buttons. It appears when the paid period ends within 7 days, has ended, or the network is stopped.

Only the owner renews a network; the people of a shared network see Its owner renews it. The new period counts:

  • while the paid period runs — from its end;
  • in the grace period — from the old end date too: the network kept working all that time;
  • after the network was stopped — from the day of payment, and the network starts again within about a minute.

Renew the other services

  • A pack (+5 domains, +5 devices) has no separate renew button: buying it again while it runs adds one more pack and moves its end date by the paid period.
  • Reverse-proxy slots are renewed all at once on My networks, under Get more in their row: Renew for a month or Renew for a year next to Renew all slots (N) costs the slot price times the number of slots, and the period is added to the current end date. +1 slot adds a slot (and moves the end date of all slots by the paid period too) while you have fewer slots than private networks.

When a network's paid period ends

  1. Before the end. 7 days and 1 day before the end date you get a reminder by email and a note in the notification feed, each once per period.
  2. When it has ended, an email and a feed note say that the network keeps working for 3 more days — the grace period — and when it will be stopped and deleted.
  3. After the grace period the network is stopped: devices can't reach its control server any more, and its published services stop answering. Its data — devices, keys, access rules, sites, routes — is kept. The network's header says Stopped; you get an email and a feed note.
  4. Shortly before the deletion — 7 days before it — one more email.
  5. 30 days after the end of the paid period the network is deleted with its devices, access rules and published services, unless it was renewed. An email says so. The network's names in mesh-net's zones — its address and second addresses — stay with your account.

Renew during the grace period or after the stop, and the network works again — see Renew a private network. The people of a shared network get a feed note when it is stopped, deleted, or works again.

Download backups in time

A stopped network can still be exported: on its page, the Backup tab, Download the archive. If you're not going to renew, export the network before it is deleted: a deleted network can't be brought back.

When other services end

Reverse-proxy slots and packs have no grace period: the nightly check removes what they gave right after the end date, and an email says so.

  • Reverse-proxy — you have no slots any more, and the published services of all your networks are removed with their proxies. Buy a slot again to publish (see Slots).
  • +5 domains — the limit of names drops back, and the names above it are released in the order below.
  • +5 devices — the devices you have stay connected, but new ones can't be added above the free limit.

Which names go first

When an account has more names than its limit allows, mesh-net keeps as many as the limit holds, in this order:

  1. names that are addresses of your networks or of published services — they aren't released this way at all and go only with their network or route;
  2. your own domains, the oldest first — a released domain would stop resolving entirely, mail included;
  3. then the names in our zones, the oldest first.

So the most recently added names in our zones are released first. A released name loses its records, leaves your list and is free for anyone. To choose yourself what stays, delete the names you don't need before the date.

Inactive free accounts

An account is never deleted for not being used. But if your account has no paid service in force — no paid network, reverse-proxy slots or packs — and you haven't signed in for 30 days, you get an email and a note in the feed: sign in within 7 days to keep the free services. Overview of an account without paid services keeps saying it: No paid services: sign in at least once every 30 days to keep the free ones.

If there's still no sign-in, the account's free services are released:

  • its names in mesh-net's zones with their DNS records — except names that are addresses of networks or of published services: they stay with their network;
  • its own domains: their DNS stops answering;
  • its devices in the public network;
  • its rooms: the account leaves other people's rooms; its own rooms where nobody else is are deleted, and its rooms with other people stay for them.

An email lists what was released. The account itself stays — you can sign in, and its history is kept — and everything can be set up again. Signing in once resets the clock. Taking part in other people's shared networks isn't affected.
